Rey Bustos' Draw Like The Old Masters

Learn artistic anatomy and how to draw the figure from like the old masters.

Personal Letter from Ryan:

Welcome to Visualarium. I'm super excited to be offering this course with Rey. He is our second LFL and I have immensely enjoyed the lectures Rey is producing. To start things off I want to talk about what IS artistic anatomy. To understand artistic anatomy and how it differs from normal human anatomy I'll borrow a quote from Robert Beverly Hale.
An artist sees things not as they are, but as he is. - Robert Beverly Hale
To say it another way: Human anatomy is a road map for doctors and medical practitioners to help them understand how our bodies work. Artistic anatomy is a roadmap for artists to help them express their vision. This is what Rey Bustos has to say about it:
I don't copy the figure. I express my joy through it. Its a performance rather than a still life. - Rey Bustos

Who Is This Class For?

This class is for anyone who wants to improve their artwork. It doesn't matter if you use pen and paper, oil and canvas, ZBrush and wacom or coloring books. This course will teach you artistic anatomy and then teach you how to apply your new knowledge to re-creating old master drawings. In short, this class is for anyone who likes to draw...

Best Anatomy Teacher In LA

All you have to do is check out my Facebook posts on Rey and you'll see plenty of people talking about how great a teacher Rey is. I've sat in every single lecture of Rey's here and even though I've been teaching anatomy for years I picked up a bunch of new information. Those who are familiar with Rey will talk about his Rey'isms. Things like calling the forearms a game of 4 on 4 and then throwing the West Side story into it to explain how the ulna separates two rival gangs: the extensors and the flexors. Rey's ability to communicate complex ideas is the best I've seen in all the teacher's I've worked with.

So, What Is In The Course?

Artistic Anatomy Lectures

Ten Artistic Anatomy lectures delivered every 7 days. There are twelve anatomy lectures that cover everything from the pelvis, to the muscles of the lower leg to the anatomy of the face. These lectures are done on the blackboard with Rey's amazing chalk technique.

Master Drawing Lectures

Ten Master Drawing lectures delivered along side the Artistic Anatomy lectures every 7 days. Each lecture documents Rey re-creating a master drawing and talking you through the entire approach. One of the key elements here is that Rey is not "copying" the drawing. He is re-creating and making artistic decisions along the way.

Crits Every 2 Weeks

Bi-monthly Crits where Rey Bustos will be online to give you feedback on your drawings and answer questions that our support staff has been unable to answer.

Special ZBrush Content For Digital Sculptors

The first two modules of Anatomy 2R2 in ZBrush. This includes creating the skeleton and the muscles of the torso inside of ZBrush.

Animal Anatomy Lectures

The course includes Rey's Comparative Anatomy Overview where he gives an overview of how you can take your human anatomy and translate that into animal anatomy.

Quick Sculpt Series

To finish that off, I'll include my Quick Sculpting Animals Overview that is normally only part of the Animal Anatomy course.

Plus its all DOWNLOADABLE!
